Behind The Scene: Independent Short Film
My first photography job
This job was taken on as a favour to the film’s cinematographer, Ben Hodder, whom I’d known for a while and had an arrangement where we helped each other out on our projects. The short film was an thriller set in a seaside town, and on the day they shot scenes around a boatyard in Seaton, East Devon, on a glorious summers day, but we spent the whole time in between the boats and I didn’t even get a chance to take a few quick shots of the beautiful surrounding area.
Although my first photography job I was in my element, being a filmmaker myself, and knew the type of photos they needed, film equipment in action, the director looking busy and some nice clear shots of the cast. I used my first DSLR, a Nikon D5200 with a Sigma 18-35mm Art lens (still one of my favourite lenses), and a Sigma 50mm. I gave the pics over at the end so didn’t do the edit on them.
It’s been interesting looking over these photos which were taken in early 2015, now in the middle of 2017 have a few years of experience and developed a lot since then, although I still have a lot to learn, I think this was a good starting point and am fairly pleased with them.
